Ernie Robert Shoaf went to meet his Lord on January 7, 2012, at Lovelace Medical Center, Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 19 days.
Ernie was born on a bitter cold day at home in Carlton, Colorado on January 18, 1930, to Ernie Jacob and Leona Druzella (Thompson) Shoaf. Ernie grew to manhood on a farm at Wiley, Colorado with 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
He began his education in Wiley, Colorado graduating in a class of 9 in 1948. He attended Otero Jr College and graduated from Western State College with a Teaching Certificate.
While attending college he met and married the love of his life Beverly Joan Dugan on June 2, 1950 at LaJunta, Colorado. To this union 4 children were born, Michael David
Joy, Edie and Patty.
Ernie taught math at many schools Wiley, Flagler, Strasburg and Greeley, Colorado. He was employed by NORAD and later for Boeing, traveling all over the United States. Upon his retirement from Boeing, he returned to teaching in Mesquite, Texas. Upon his retirement from teaching, he moved to New Mexico, where he soon became a math tutor for many different students. He had many hobbies and loves that he enjoyed from teaching, tutoring (changed many lives), farming and word-working. Always helping and giving to others.
Ernie and Bev loved traveling and managed to visit all 50 States.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Michael 1-5-75); 2 brothers George Elbert Shoaf and wife Marge, James William Shoaf; 1 sister Merle Lorraine Kingsley and husband Kenneth; and brother-in-law Vern Hudgins.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Beverly of 61 years; 3 daughters and their husbands, Joy Emmons and Jack of Albuquerque, N.M., Edie Markovic and Mark of Mesquite, TX and Patty Pieper and John of St Louis, MO; sister Ada Hudgins of Goodyear, AZ; sister-in-law Edna Shoaf of Pueblo, CO; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; other family and many, many friends.
