Funeral services for Esther Marie Hanshu, 89 year old Shattuck resident will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 22, 2008 at the Shattuck United Methodist Church with burial following at the Shattuck Memorial Cemetery. Shaw Funeral Home of Shattuck is in charge of arrangements.

Esther Marie Hanshu was one of four children born to Alex and Bertha (Borth) Deal on March 8, 1919 in Ellis County, Oklahoma. She was baptized into the Christian faith on January 27, 1920 at Shattuck, OK and attended grade school in Ellis County, OK. As a child and young adult she enjoyed farm living and on August 2, 1941 married David Hanshu. They made their home in Lipscomb County, TX. In 1946, they moved to Shattuck, OK, where she remained for the duration of her life.

Esther Marie's adult life centered on her family and although challenged by the early loss of her daughter Joan and son Steven she maintained her faith and cared for her husband until his death in 2005. The joys of her life were her numerous nieces and nephews and the many friends for whom her home was always open.

Esther Marie was a member of St. Paul's congregational Church in Shattuck and departed this life on December 18, 2008 at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents, children Joan and Steven and brothers Herbert and Alfred. She leaves to rejoice in this life her sister Edna Campbell of Long Beach, CA and many nieces, nephews and a host of special friends.
