Ethel Faye (Young) Spake was born October 30, 1926 at the farm home 6 miles east, 3 south and ½ east of Vici, Oklahoma to Harry E. and Ethel B (Whitehead) Young. She departed this life on June 15, 2010 at the age of 83. Faye started to school at the age of 5 at Pleasant Ridge and graduated from the 8th grade with all of the 8th grade class of Dewey County at Taloga in May, 1939. She entered the 9th grade at Vici High School, graduating with the Class of 1943.
In 1944 Faye went to Oklahoma City and accepted employment in the Federal Reserve Bank until her marriage to Rex Spake at Canadian, Texas on July 6, 1946. Rex and Faye lived a few months in Vici before moving to Shattuck, Oklahoma. In 1947 their home was blessed with their first child, daughter Janelle Kay. In 1948, another blessing, daughter Carol June was born. In 1951, Rex and Faye moved to Wichita, Kansas and lived there until 1960. While in Wichita, they were blessed once again with the birth of their son, Jimmy Lee, in 1955. Faye enjoyed being a housewife and taking care of her family. In 1960, the family moved "back home" to Vici. Faye went to work at the hardware store for a time before taking a job at the Farmers Co-op Elevators. She worked there for 17 years as the bookkeeper. In 1981 she accepted employment at the Bank of Vici until she retired in 1991. Faye was a loyal and devoted wife and mother; she loved her family and was a caregiver to family members when needed.
Faye was talented in the music field and her and Rex, along with their friends, entertained at several Nursing Homes, Senior Citizens Centers, Churches and other places. Faye was baptized into Christ in the Martison Avenue Christian Church in Wichita, Kansas in 1956, transferring her membership to the First Christian Church in Vici in 1960. She was a faithful member and active in the choir, Ladies Missionary Society and Ladies Aid. Faye was quiet and reserved and a friend to all who knew her. She loved people and had many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Spake; parents, Harry and Ethel Young; four brothers, Ralph, Alfred, Gordon, and Oscar; three sisters, Stella Randolph, Bertha Cole, and Mabel Gastineau; brothers-in-law, Myron Gastineau, Daniel Randolph, and Murl Cole; sisters-in-law, Wanna Mae Young, LaVaughan Young and other family members.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Janelle Cole and husband Neil of Mooreland, OK, Carol Schwake and husband Richard of Wellston, OK, and Jimmy and Susan Spake of Mundy, TX; four grandchildren, Marty Coulson and wife Keri, Monty Coulson and wife Darla, all of Wellston, OK, Jeffrey Spake of Randlett, OK, and Jillian Spake of Canyon, TX; five great-grandchildren; sister, Wilma Williamson of Felt, OK; brother-in-law Lynn Spake and wife Mary Ann of Vici, OK; sisters-in-law, Reta Hunter of Woodward, OK and Donetta Castle and husband Jack of Vici, OK; brother-in-law Francis Spake of Woodward, OK; many nieces, nephews, great and great, great nieces and nephews, and many friends.
