Eugene "Gene" Virgle Hagen, longtime Shattuck resident, passed from this life on December 6, 2008 at the age of 71. He was born March 20, 1937 in rural Ellis County to Joe and Hannah (Redelsperger) Hagen.

Gene attended grade school through high school in the Shattuck public schools. He was baptized as a young man in the Christian Church.

Gene proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from May, 1957 to May, 1961 when he was honorable discharged. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and several other citations.

On April 17, 1971 Gene was united in marriage to Miss Connie Carpenter. Gene and Connie's life together were spent as farmers and ranchers working along side each other as a team. When not working cattle or in the fields, Gene always enjoyed a good visit with friends.

Family members preceding him in death are his parents, Joe and Hannah Hagen and sister, Evelyn Anderson. Those remaining to cherish his memory are wife, Connie of the home in Shattuck; sisters, Lovella Dennett and family of Kansas and Darlene Anderson and family of Lawton; brother, Arnold Hagen and family; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
