Peard

Madie Faye (Ivey) Peard Puffinbarger was born November 16, 1924 to Henry Bertie Ivey and Elsie Louisa (Pollock) Ivey in a farm house in Kiowa County, Oklahoma. She was the fourth child of nine. Milton Ivey(deceased), Genieva Ivy (deceased), Lola Mae Ivey McClevinus of Texas, Ollie Ray (Ivey) Shull of Oklahoma, Betty Jo (Ivey) Blevins (deceased), a stillborn baby boy, Otis Eugene Ivey of Oklahoma and Bertie Willene (Ivey) Goss Karr of Arkansas.
Madie attended school at Limestone Gap and in the fourth grade she endured a terrible accident which kept her from graduating. In 1943 she was united in marriage to John Harris Peard in Stockton, California. John had two sons at the time, Warren Wade Peard age five and John Elvin "Jack" Peard age seven, both are now deceased. To this union was born Michael Gene Peard and Diana Faye Peard, both are now deceased. The family moved to several different states following work but landed in Vici, Oklahoma where John passed away in 1979. Madie later married Carol Fay Puffinbarger at the Vici First Christian Church in 2002, "Puff" passed away in 2018.
In 1965 Madie entered nursing school where she graduated as the most outstanding student of her class in 1966. She worked as a nursing supervisor at Vici Nursing Home and then made a change to the Woodward Hospital where she held the position of supervisor of physical therapy for sixteen years. She retired in 1986 and began a long career as a volunteer worker at the Vici Nursing Home, First Christian Church and the Senior Citizens Center. She received awards for sixteen years of service with the seven-county retired and senior volunteer program in 2003.
Faye helped raise her stepchildren as well as her grandchildren Rita Carol and Denise Dawn. In her later years she lost her eyesight but never slowed down, she remained independent, living alone in her home in Vici. She passed from this life at the age of 99 on July 6, 2024. She is survived by seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren. Faye had lots of friends including special friends, the Harold Hutchison family, Laveta Middlestetter and Rose Frech plus many other treasured friendships at the Vici Church of Christ.
