Florence Emma (Shelton) Scarborough was one of five daughters born to Almus and Sadie (McCulloch) Shelton. She arrived February 5, 1926 at Arnett, OK, and passed from this life October 14, 2019 at the age of 93 in Searcy, AR. She grew up in the Arnett community and attended grade school and high school in Arnett Public School system.
On September 27, 1943, Florence was united in marriage to Porter Scarborough at Woodward, OK. Two children, Richard and Karen blessed their home in Gage, OK. Florence was never an outdoor person. She was homemaker, always tending to the needs of her family. She was a talented seamstress and made men's suits and designed western clothes for men and women. She received recognition for her artistry by being the recipient of the "Golden Thimble Award," a contest sponsored by the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. She also enjoyed crochet work and made numerous afghans. Florence was always happy with everything she ever received and greeted everyone she saw with a smile and a "hello."
While residing in Searcy, AR. she was a member of the First Christian Church. She never drank, smoked or cursed, but last week she told her family, "I never cussed, but I had a hell of a night last night." Life had become very difficult. Her return to Oklahoma would have brought a smile to her face as Northwest Oklahoma was always home to her.
Florence was a wonderful Mother, Grandma and Mother-in-law. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Karen Kendall and husband Sammy of Searcy, AR., her grandchildren and great grands, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is reunited with her beloved husband, Porter, their son, Richard, four sisters and brother-in-laws and other family members. Her kind, gentle nature will always be remembered.
