Flossie Ethel Fitz was born November 3, 1917 in Higgins, Texas, to James and Rhoda (Best) Kernes. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 13, 2011, in Shattuck, Oklahoma at the age of 93.
Flossie was raised on the family farm in southwest Ellis County. She attended the Bishop School through her junior year. On September 15, 1934 Flossie was united in marriage to Dale Fitz. To this union five children were born; Norvie Dord, Rodney Kendall, Vaudie LaRue, Nina Loree and Joyce Elna. After they were married they made their home in the Bishop Community for a time before moving to California then to Kansas. The family returned to Oklahoma in 1957 moving back to the family ranch.
Flossie was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, flowers and making clothes for her family. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and the Busy Bee quilting club. She also had a special appreciation for animals and wildlife. In May of 1989, Flossie, along with her daughter and granddaughter were all baptized at the First Baptist Church of Tyrone, Oklahoma; she attended the Nazarene Church in the Bishop Community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents James and Rhoda Kernes, daughter Joyce Ashpaugh, daughter-in-law Barbara Fitz, four brothers and one sister.
Flossie is survived by her sons, Norvie Fitz and wife Elva of Shattuck, OK and Rodney Fitz of Kingston, OK; daughters, Vaudie Smith and husband Byrl of Gage, OK and Nina Fagala and husband Dee of Gage, OK; son-in-law, Gene Ashpaugh of Higgins, TX; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 9 great great-grandchildren, other family and a host of friends.
