Obituary

Frances Marie Cummings was born August 31, 1916 in Decatur, Texas to Estill M. and Lela Ann (Fitzgerald) Cummings. She passed from this life on November 15, 2009 at the age of 93. Frances grew up in the Camargo area, attending the local school. She attended her first year of college at Chickasha Women's College later transferring to the University of Oklahoma where she attained a B.A. degree. She taught school in Purcell, Oklahoma and Bacone College as well.

During World War II Frances worked in a Lab in Oakland, California. She then returned to OU to receive her Doctorate Degree in Chemistry. After graduation Frances went to work for the Pittsburgh Plate Glass company at their Corpus Christi, Texas location as a research chemist. She remained employed there until her retirement. Due to ill health Frances returned to Oklahoma to be near her family.

She loved to travel and had made trips to Mexico, Europe, England and Canada to name a few. She was often accompanied by her sister. Frances also enjoyed the outdoors and was always ready for a camping trip or to go fishing.

She was a member of the Women's Democratic League and spent time as a volunteer at the C. C. Art Museum.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Estill and Lela Ann Cummings and brother, Robert F. Cummings and nephew, Joe Bob Cummings. She leaves one sister, Mary J. Miller of Camargo, Oklahoma: nieces, Bobbie Ralston of Woodward, Oklahoma, Patsy Parker of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Jeri Warnock of Chandler, Oklahoma; nephew, Jim Cummings of Woodward, Oklahoma; many friends and distant relatives.
