Obituary

Franklin Delano Owens passed from this life on June 30, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 88. He was born on November 20, 1936, in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Fred and Velda Owens.

Franklin grew up in Woodward, attending school there before relocating to Larned, Kansas. In 1954, he began his proud and honorable service to our country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. He later transferred to the United States Marine Corps, where he would serve with distinction until his retirement in 1974. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Franklin achieved the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and numerous decorations and commendations for his bravery and dedication.

Following his military career, Franklin returned to his hometown of Woodward, where he built a life rooted in hard work, family, and community. He was a skilled mechanic by trade and a man who could often be found tinkering with his beloved old cars—including a Ranchero, an El Camino, and a Plymouth. His hobbies and interests were many: he enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing cards and dominos, watching NASCAR, and participating in softball leagues. He was a longtime member of the VFW and the Men's Bowling League in Woodward.

Franklin married Sandra Lawson in 1967, and to this union a daughter, Delana, was born. He also welcomed a son, Stephen. On July 14, 1989, Franklin married Treva Loucks Owens in Las Vegas, Nevada, and with that marriage came the blessing of a larger family: David Clark, Jeanette Stafford, Rhena Glenn, Gary Glenn, Kathy Williams, and Christopher Nye. Together, Franklin and Treva made their home in Woodward, where they lived from 1989 until her passing and his own.

Franklin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Treva Owens; his parents, Fred Owens and Velda Snedeger; sons, David Clark and Christopher Nye; grandson Josh Glenn; and his siblings Bill, Buster, Jack, Wilbur, Marlin, Lottie, Daisy, and Glynna.

He is survived by his daughter, Delana Whisenhunt and husband Mark; son, Stephen Owens and wife Robin; daughter, Jeanette Stafford and husband Randy; daughter, Rhena Glenn and husband Douglas; son, Gary Glenn; daughter, Kathy Williams and husband Mike; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a host of other loved ones and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Franklin will be remembered for his strength, service, sense of humor, and deep devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the lives of those he loved and served so well.
