Herber
January 2, 1922 – October 4, 2023
A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Fritz Herber, long-time resident of the Shattuck Area, passed from this life on October 4, 2023 in Woodward, Oklahoma. Fritz's long life started January 2, 1922 Southwest of Shattuck where he was born and raised on the family farm, to his parents George and Katherine (Ruf) Herber. He learned carpentry skills from his father along with farming. He graduated from Shattuck High School in 1938 at the age of 16. On April 4, 1942, Fritz was united in marriage to Lorene Wunsch. He was drafted into the US Army in 1942, where he served in the signal corps as a translator for the European Theatre and the Pacific Theatre during World War II, receiving various medals for his service. He was honorably discharged in December, 1945. After returning from the war, Fritz swore he'd seen all of the world he cared to see and was grateful to see Northwest Oklahoma and his wife again, let alone taste good German home cooking! He quickly started his own farm and ranch operation west of Shattuck, where he and his wife, Lorene, raised their four children.
