Obituary

In the early morning hours of March 15, 2016 Garry Russell Vincent, 67 year old resident of Waukomis, OK, passed away. Garry was born February 20, 1949 in Higgins, TX, to Calvin and Imogene Vincent. He was raised in Arnett, OK and lived most of his adult life in Gage, OK with his wife, as well as in Custer City, OK and Waukomis, OK.
Garry graduated from Arnett High School in 1967. Following high school, he married his high school sweetheart Barbara Lynn Parkins on November 19, 1967 in Gage, OK. They first made their home in Guymon, OK where he worked for the Highway Patrol as Head of Communications. Garry and Barbara moved back to Gage, OK where he worked as an Independent Insurance Agent, and also did a short stint as a City of Gage Police Officer. Garry then went to work for Halliburton for fifteen years. After Halliburton he owned and operated a dry cleaning business in Gage, followed by owning and operating a quick stop in Gage for several years. Garry has always felt the calling to go into ministry, and finally chose to answer that calling by becoming a United Methodist Church minister. Garry obtained his degree in Theology through St. Paul's School of Theology. His first appointment was at Custer City United Methodist Church and Independence United Methodist Church where he spent twelve years before being appointed to Waukomis United Methodist Church and Salem United Methodist Church up until the time of his death.
Garry loved being outdoors and enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and had many hobbies from woodworking to reading. He especially enjoyed fishing and camping trips to Colorado and Canada. He made these trips annually with his friends. Garry had the gift of speaking and as a high school student, through speaking competition, won the chance to travel Europe. Garry especially loved talking to people, meeting people and never knew a stranger.
Garry believed in serving his community. He served on the Gage School Board, was a member of Gage Rotary Club, and was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge.
Garry was preceded in death by his parents Calvin and Imogene Vincent; father and mother-in-law Sie Ernest and Emma Parkins; and brother-in-law Bob Slavin.
