Obituary

Loving husband, father, granddad, brother and friend, Gary Manley Turner was called to his heavenly home on Saturday February 25, 2023.  Gary was born September 6, 1941, the third of nine children to Manley John Turner and Selma Lois (Kothman) Turner in a log cabin in Crawford, Colorado. When Gary was around three years of age the family moved to the family farm east of Vici, OK. and  Gary attended Vici school through the Junior year.  When Gary was seven years old he and his six year old brother Dewaine were playing along the creek bank when the bank caved off and fell on his brother ending his life.  That was a very devastating time for Gary.  Gary's dad was a brick mason contractor and at the age of sixteen Gary started working for his dad learning the masonry trade.

On May 31, 1960 Gary married Carole Sue Jones at the Vici Church of the Nazarene.  They made their home in Vici all the years of their marriage.  They were blessed with two daughters, Robin Lynette and Shelley Dawn.  Gary continued to work for his dad and when his dad decided to retire he took over the business, Turner Masonry Construction.  Gary was very involved with his daughters' activities in both their school and church.  They were his pride and joy.

Construction work began to slow down so Gary had to seek other work.  In the 1970's he went to work at the Tonkawa Refinery at Harmon, OK. and when the refinery shut down in 1984 he went back to masonry work.  He went to work for a construction company in Phoenix, Arizona.  In 1985 he was seriously injured on the job and couldn't work for six months.  When he went back to work he worked for different contractors.  He got to see lots of country working in different states, Kansas, New Mexico, Arizona, California and Indiana.  In 2006 he retired except for a few odd jobs for others.

Gary accepted Christ as his savior in his early years of marriage at the Vici Church of the Nazarene.  He was very active in church work.  He was Sunday School Superintendent for several years and he served on the church board.

Gary was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  When his grand daughters were growing up he would ask them "you know what?"  His answer was I love you.  After that when he would ask them "you know what" they would answer "you love me".  He tried to attend as many events as possible which wasn't all that easy since he was working away from home.

He was preceded in death by his parents Manley and Selma Turner, sisters and brothers in law Ione and Elmer Castor, Linda and Jerry Melson, Colleen and Dwaine Easter and Vera and Ira Epling; three brothers Dewaine, Paul and Dennis Turner, granddaughter Erin (Bryant) Suchy, his mother and father in law Edward and Inez Jones, sisters in law Winona Phillips, Izetta Collar and husband Lloyd, Crystal Fielder and husband Earl and a brother in law Wendell Jones.

He is survived by his wife Carole Turner of Vici, OK., his daughters and son in laws, Robin and Terry Bryant of Camargo, OK. and Shelley and Kevin Bay of Thomas, OK.; his grandchildren Brooklynn Miller and children Isaac, Brady and Rhett of Thomas, OK., Leah Yoder and husband Cody and children Kaylee and Kiley of Thomas, OK., Laura Bryant and children Rien and Bryant of Vici, OK., Erika Bryant and children Paiton and Hadlie of Sayre, OK., Heather Spencer and husband Roxy and children Cameron and Natalie of Camargo, OK., Brandon Bryant and wife Crystal and children Cooper, Asher, Oliver, Elise and a new arrival expected in March of Fairview, OK.  His sister and brother in law Rhonda and Stan Ried of Mooreland, OK., sisters in law Jackie Jones of Kiowa, KS. and Cheryl Turner of Vici, OK., numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
