Gary Wayne Young passed from this life on November 28, 2021 at 6:53 pm in Woodward, Oklahoma. Gary was born on November 23, 1949 in Shattuck, Oklahoma to parents Oscar and Marjorie (Dalyrmple) Young. Gary lived in Vici, Oklahoma until he was 8, attending elementary school there. Gary often spoke of his time in Vici living on the farm as the best days of his life. The family moved to Taloga, Oklahoma, where Gary finished school, graduating Taloga High School with the Class of 1968. Following graduation Gary moved to Kimball, Nebraska. In 1969, Gary married Diane Ertle, and to this union was born three children, daughter Michelle, and sons Gary Jr. and Wayne. On June 15, 2007, Gary married Vonda Jones in Belle Fourch, South Dakota.

In his teenage years, Gary began a lifelong career in the oil field. He often found himself moving from place to place to keep up with industry, moving from Kimball to Woodward, Oklahoma; Meridian, Mississippi; Longmont, Colorado; Sterling, Colorado; Brush, Colorado; Rifle, Colorado; Belle Fourch, South Dakota; Amarillo, Texas; and finally, Cookson, Oklahoma. When the times got tough and the field slowed down, Gary would take any available job that he could find. Some of these times included working on sewing machines at a factory where his mom worked and selling Kirby vacuum cleaners. Though there were lulls, Gary's passion was for oil, and he worked his way up from a rig hand to a company man before he finally retired. For the last six years, Gary was a gate keeper near Cookson, Oklahoma at the Chicken Creek Campground for the Army Corps of Engineers.

Gary enjoyed fishing and camping, he loved to stop at any historical markers and to travel. When he wasn't busy in the great outdoors, he loved to watch westerns and listen to country and Elvis Presley music and boy did he love his Elvis Presley music. During his career in the oilfield, Gary won tons of awards for drilling records that he had set on the rig. While he wasn't a member of any one church, Gary was baptized in 1969 at Kimball, Nebraska, and always quick to go to church with his wife Vonda when she asked him. Although he wasn't tied to any one church, Gary believed in his Lord Jesus Christ- that He died on the cross and that He was buried and rose again.

Gary is preceded in death by his father, Oscar Young.

Gary is survived by: his wife, Vonda Young, of the home; mother, Marjorie Young, of Laverne, Oklahoma; daughter Michelle Olson of Sterling, Colorado; sons, Gary Young, Jr. of Sterling, and Wayne Young of Sterling; two sisters Diana Lee and husband Robert of Amarillo, Texas and Phillis Price and husband Melvin of Laverne, Oklahoma; brother Ray Young and wife Barbara of Fort Supply, Oklahoma; aunt Wilma Lee Williamson; many nieces, nephews, and a host of loved ones and friends.
