Obituary

Harold "Mean Gene" Eugene Kinney was born on September 8, 1931, on the family farm southeast of Laverne, Oklahoma to Calvin and Gladys (Johnson) Kinney. attended Laverne schools. January 12, 1953, he was inducted into the United States Army and was stationed in Colorado, Wisconsin, and Kentucky. He was honorably discharged on January 12, 1955.

Gene then returned to Oklahoma. He then later went to work for Coca-Cola in Liberal, Kansas. In 1956, he went to work at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline. During this time, he was blessed with three children from his first marriage: Eddie, Donna, and Virgil. Gene was later introduced to the love of his life, Marietta Beard Caldwell, and they were married on September 8, 1971. Marietta brought to this union a daughter, Belinda Caldwell. They shared 38 wonderful years together. They spent time together enjoying sporting events, camping at the lake, and above all, they enjoyed family time.

Gene enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He made friends wherever he went whether at work or the coffee shop. He would spend many hours doing anything to help others. He was always inventing something using his welder and any scraps of metal he found lying around. If you needed something fixed, Gene was always willing to help. Gene returned home to his Lord and Savior on July 19, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Gene is preceded in death by his wife, Marietta, parents Calvin and Gladys, brothers Bruce, Thad, and Earl, four sisters, Pearl Winegert, Lorene Denton, Patty Kinney, and half-sister, Ruby Caviness.

Gene is survived by one brother, Donald Kinney and wife Markie of Skiatook, Oklahoma, son Eddie Kinney and wife Debbie of Woodward, OK, daughter Donna Grogan of Woodward, OK, son Virgil Kinney of Puyallup, Washington, step-daughter Belinda Young and husband Robert of Seiling, Oklahoma, grandchildren Brandon Bullard of Biloxi, Mississippi, Troy Bullard and wife Shannon, Tyson Bullard and wife Micah, all of Shattuck, Chris Grogan of Woodward, Amanda Grogan of Woodward, Ray Jordan of Friona, Texas, Linette Gerlach of Clifton, Colorado, Kayla Watt and husband Brian of Edgewood, Washington, Calyn Kinney and wife Katie of Spanaway, Washington and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
