Obituary

George Alvin Burns Jr., 68-year-old resident of Elk City, OK, passed from this life on May 24, 2017 at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Clinton, OK. George was born June 30, 1948 to George Alvin Sr. and Violet Mae (Aldridge) Burns in Denver, CO. Growing up the family lived in many places including Denver, CO, Alaska, Hawaii, and Mississippi. He attended high school in Harrison, AR graduating with the class of 1966. On September 3, 1965 George enlisted in the army. He served in Airborne Ranger branch achieving the rank of Expert Private E1. He served in the Vietnam War obtaining the awards of sharpshooter and expert. In 1969 George was honorably discharged from the Army after faithfully serving his country.
On July 7, 1971, George married Rosemarie Elizabeth Menzia and to this union three children were born Michael, Danyell, and Kenneth. He was a truck driver for the oil field industry and the family made their home in Harrison, AR, Denver, CO, Branson, MO, and finally Elk City, OK where they lived from 1988 to present.
George was baptized at the age of 12 years and attended the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, carpentary, hunting, snow skiing, playing cards and watching NASCAR and football. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He always enjoyed picking on his little brother.
George is proceded in death by his parents George Sr. and Violet Burns; one brother Mark Allen Aldridge and one sister Martha Irene Aldridge.
He is survived by his wife of the home Rosemarie Elizabeth Burns; three children Michael Wayne Burns of Elk City, OK, Danyell Lynn Gamble and husband Derek of Canute, OK and Kenneth Burns of Mississippi; three grandchildren Ashley Spence and husband Patrick, Trenton Burns and wife Alexis, and Ian Gamble; two sisters Phyllis Keehn and husband Robert of Holton, KS and Patricia Koch and husband Mike of Mountain Home, AR; one brother William Aldridge of Harrison, AR; six great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
