Gerald Rodney Porter

Gerald Rodney Porter was born on June 16, 1940, in Woodward, Oklahoma, to George Rodney Porter and Ola Inez (Johnson) Porter. He passed away leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories, lasting friendships, and a legacy of hard work, adventure, and devotion to his family.

As a child, Gerald was baptized at the Woodward Assembly of God Church, where he began a lifelong foundation of faith. He attended school in Woodward and remained deeply connected to the community he called home.

Gerald was a talented craftsman who dedicated much of his career to the body shop he built alongside his father. Known for his exceptional skill as an auto body painter, he transformed countless vehicles with precision and pride, creating some of the most beautiful finishes anyone could imagine. In addition to his painting expertise, Gerald was an accomplished mechanic who enjoyed rebuilding and repairing engines. He believed in doing every job the right way and took great satisfaction in honest, quality workmanship.

Outside of work, Gerald embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved riding motorcycles, spending time on the water boating, and fishing whenever he had the opportunity. He also had a passion for weather and was among the first storm chasers in the Woodward area, long before storm chasing became widely known. Before warning sirens were common, Gerald and fellow weather enthusiasts relied on ham radios to track storms and help keep others informed. He also proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard.

Above all, Gerald treasured his family. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved watching his family grow through the generations.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, George Rodney Porter and Ola Inez (Johnson) Porter.

He is lovingly survived by his son, Kevin Porter and wife, Franchesca; his daughter, Heather Icke and husband, Lester; grandchildren Cory Allen Taylor and wife Veronica, Kyle Aaron Taylor, Shelby Prestwich and husband, Garret, Kassidy Porter, Cameron Auvelius, Crystal Auvelius, Amelia Prestwich, Houston Solee, and Olivia Solee, along with many other relatives and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Gerald will be remembered for his quiet strength, remarkable craftsmanship, adventurous spirit, and the love he had for his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the work of his hands, and the memories shared by all who knew and loved him.
