Gertrude Alene Nixon was born northwest of Leedey to Frank and Icie Taylor on January 15, 1926, and was reunited with them in heaven on August 30, 2010, at the age of 84. She attended school and played basketball at Liberty Center. Alene married Herman Walker in 1940 and they had three children: Richard, Cheryl, and Jerry. In 1956, she married Raymond Nixon and they had one child, Donna. Over the years she lived in California, Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and in 1983, Alene and Raymond moved to Leedey. She was known for her witty sense of humor, her warming smile, and her passion for fashion and looking nice. Even when leaving for the hospital she wanted her makeup on. She always had a positive outlook and never complained. All who knew her thought she was a fine lady who always had a twinkle in her eye and a kind word to say. Alene enjoyed cooking for family gatherings and was passionate about her family and their dog, Fraulein. She is survived by her husband, Raymond, and her children, Richard and wife Sharon of Las Cruces, NM, Cheryl and husband Rick of Refugio, TX, Jerry and wife Debbie of Spavinaw, OK and Donna and husband John of Watonga, OK, and by her sister, Angela of Roswell, NM. In addition she leaves 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
