Gloria Ann Longhofer Peer passed peacefully from this life, with her family at her side, on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the age of 78. Gloria was born in Shattuck, Oklahoma on October 17, 1931 to Rachel (Ruf) and Dan Longhofer.
Gloria's elementary and high school years were spent in the Shattuck Public Schools. She was very active during her high school years. She was a cheerleader, on the honor society and was basketball and football homecoming queen. She graduated with the Class of 1949. She went on to further her education, attending Oklahoma State University for one year until her father-in-law became ill and she returned home to help with her in-laws on the farm.
On December 26, 1949 Gloria was united in marriage to Tom Peer. The ceremony was held in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Shattuck, Oklahoma. Their marriage was soon blessed with the birth of their two daughters, Nickla Ann and Tomi Sue.
The family made their home in Shattuck for a few years before moving to Gage in 1955. They resided in Gage for the next 43 years until 1998 when Tom and Gloria moved to Edmond, Oklahoma to be closer to their daughters and granddaughter, Hayley.
Gloria attended and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Shattuck, Oklahoma and was baptized in the early 1960's.
Gloria was a homemaker by profession, the best of the best. She was a loving wife and mother who devoted all of her time to her family. As her daughter's grew up, she was a class parent and was always willing to help with their school activities. She also worked in Shattuck Newman Memorial Hospital as the head of the Insurance Department for 12 years.
Gloria and Tom were loyal OU football and basketball fans, and season ticket holders for many years until their health prevented them from attending the games. Gloria received the most enjoyment being a grandmother to Hayley and going on special shopping trips together.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Tom Peer, her parents Dan and Rachel Longhofer, parents-in-law George and Agnes Peer, and son-in-law Russell Watt. She is survived by her daughters Nicki Peer-Watt of Edmond, Oklahoma and Tomi Sue Havran and husband Dave of Yukon, Oklahoma, granddaughter Hayley Peer Havran Vanderbilt and husband Jordan of Yukon, Oklahoma, other family and a lifetime of friends.
