IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold "Rex"
Forrest
June 8, 1941 – November 24, 2021
Rex Forrest passed from this life on November 24, 2021 in New Mexico. Rex was born June 8, 1941. He was number five of ten brothers and sisters. In his early years, the family moved around as their father found work. Rex started second grade at Vici and graduated Vici High School in 1959. Growing up wasn't easy, he was hired by farmers in the area cutting and hauling hay and plowing the ground to get the next crop planted. As soon as he was old enough, he went to work for the harvest crews that went north following the wheat harvest. That was an education in itself and he loved it. in the summer of 1957, a new girl, Dianne, moved to town who had attended grade school in Vici before her family moved to Texas. The family moved back to their farm after the father was injured in an oilfield accident. She went to work at the drug store shortly after arriving in town. Rex and Dianne met, married in 1960, and had over 61 years together. One son, Daniel, was born in September of 1961. Together, they learned very quickly how to become parents.
Rex loved sports, but baseball was his favorite. He coached little league baseball for many years. His goal was not to have a winning team, but to teach the kids how to play the game the right way, how to win and also how to lose. Softball in summer and basketball in fall and winter were his hobbies. Fishing and camping were added after the purchase of a camper opened up a whole new world. he enjoyed traveling with friends and family and seeing new places. That was the life they both wanted in retirement.
Memorial service will be held, Saturday, April 30, 1:00 PM at the Vici Community Building.
