Harold William Kennedy, son of Elmer Gordon and Clara Belle (Coles) Kennedy was born June 13, 1927 near Vici and passed away December 5, 2007 in Woodward, Oklahoma.
Harold attended grade school in Fairview, a country school near his home. He graduated from Vici High School in 1945. While in high school he was a member of the football and basketball teams. He was also a member of the relay team, qualifying for the State Finals his senior year.
On January 27, 1952, Harold William Kennedy and Twyla Mae Salisbury were married at the parsonage at South Persimmon Baptist Church. This home was blessed with two daughters, Donna Lynn and Dee Ann.
Harold loved all sports and enjoyed watching his children and grandkids, following the teams to several state finals in softball and basketball.
Harold's greatest love and interests was his family. His home was always open to friends of his and his children. He was coach of the Sharon-Mutual Rodeo Club in the late 1970's and spent many a weekend and many miles hauling kids to rodeos from Texas to Cheyenne, WY. The kids have many good memories of the time spent with him on these road trips. He loved to reminisce with the cowboys years after the rodeos ended.
Harold has been a member of the South Persimmon Baptist Church for 43 years, serving as Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and Deacon, as well as serving on several committees.
Harold and Twyla lived in Vici for awhile, moving to Alva, and later to Oklahoma City. In 1964 they purchased the grocery store in Sharon, operating it until 1976 at which time he went to work in the oilfield. He was a State Meat Inspector for a number of years while Twyla and helper ran the grocery store.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Clara Kennedy, and by two sisters Ahlois Weeden and Elma Lynes.
Harold is survived by his loving wife Twyla, by his daughters Donna Holcomb and husband Garland of Leedey, and Dee Ann Garrison and husband Rudy of Jones, by brother Leland Kennedy of Vici, by grandchildren Clint, Kelsey, and Kara Holcomb, Kayla and Jarred Dirickson, Hunter Garrison, and Jennifer Wilborn, by great-grandchildren Kenna Dee Silas and Keelynn StarDawn Dirickson, by many nieces, nephews, loved ones, and many, many friends.
Services for Harold Kennedy were held December 8, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the South Persimmon Baptist Church. Officiating was Reverend Jay Custar and Reverend Todd White. Interment was held at Sunnyside Cemetery in Vici. Arrangements were made by Shaw Funeral Home, Vici Oklahoma.
