Obituary

Harvey Allen Wherritt was born July 22, 1936, in Trail, Oklahoma to Allen Dorsey and Iona Mae (Pryse) Wherritt and passed from this life September 29, 2013, at the age of 77. He grew up in the Trail community, attending school and graduating from the 8th grade in 1950. He then rode the bus to Trail and caught a bus to Leedey to continue his high school education, graduating with the class of 1954. Harvey accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 10 and was a member of the Leedey First Baptist Church.

Harvey joined the US Army in July of 1959 and was Honorably discharged in April of 1961.

On November 27, 1959, Harvey married Mary Dale Allen, and two daughters were born to this union, Kelly Jean and Alicia Michelle. The family lived in San Antonio and Houston, Texas, Ft Bragg, North Carolina, Liberal, Kansas, Midwest City, Oklahoma, Joshua, Texas, and Yukon, Oklahoma.

Harvey had many occupations through the years; farmer, dump truck driver, cross country moving van driver, oilfield truck driver and cab driver. He had several enjoyable pastimes like storytelling, going to pawn shops, trains, collecting guns, but his favorite was woodworking. He belonged to the Woodworkers Association, but more importantly, he made wood toys that he delighted in giving to his grandkids and other family members and friends. He loved being a grandfather and was greatly blessed in being a great-grandfather.

A special thank you to the doctors and nurses who helped care for Harvey during his illness.

Harvey was preceded in death by his wife Mary, parents Allen and Iona Mae Wherritt, sister Kathryn Edwards, great-granddaughter Brianna Schulz, and nephew Lyle Edward.

He is survived by daughters Kelly Wherritt and Mickey Wherritt, granddaughter Cassie Wherritt and great-granddaughter Zoey Wherritt, all of Yukon Oklahoma; brother-in-law John Edwards of El Reno, Oklahoma; other relatives and many friends.

Memorials may be made to the Trail Cemetery, Rt 1 box 77, Leedey, OK 73654
