Hazel Lavon Bailey's Obituary

Hazel Lavon (Redden) Bailey, lovingly known as "Nanny", went to be with Jesus on April 29, 2014, at the Pratt Regional Medical Center in Pratt, Kansas, at the age of 77. Hazel was born April 14, 1937, in Cardin, Oklahoma, the daughter of Helen Redden and Jack Hill. She attended Picher High School in Picher, Oklahoma. She was a long-time resident of Vici, Oklahoma, also living in Winfield and Dodge City, Kansas.

In 1951, Hazel married James Brown. Born to this union was one child, James Earl Sharbutt II. On June 18, 1956, she married Wayne Lowe. Born to this union was David Wayne and Shelley Lynn. On October 29, 1967, Hazel married Allen Earl Bailey, who was the love of her life. They were blessed with a son, Mark Allen Bailey. Hazel and Earl had such a caring heart that they also helped to raise two of their grandkids as if they were their own, Jennifer and Robert Fuzzell.

Hazel worked as an Avon Representative for many years and won several awards from 1984 through 1991. While living in Winfield, she volunteered as a foster grandparent, which she immensely enjoyed, for she was great with kids. She loved spending time with family and friends, but her grandchildren meant the world to her. She enjoyed crafts and making Raggedy Anne dolls and quilts for her grandkids.

Hazel was baptized and became a member of the Church of the Nazarene and her love for God was strong. Her prayer life was important to her and she was a mighty prayer warrior. She taught Sunday School for years, with her students enjoying her very much.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, sister Nancy Carroll Mattison, husband Allen Earl Bailey, two sons David Wayne Lowe and James Earl Sharbutt II.

She is survived by daughter Shelley Shaw of Pratt, KS; son Mark Bailey and wife Heather of Seiling, OK; grandchildren Jennifer Fuzzell-James of Anacoco, LA, Robert Fuzzell of Pratt, KS, Cheyla Shaw of Dodge City, KS, Jimmy Sharbutt III of Haysville, KS, Michelle Sharbutt-Wright and Mary Sharbutt-Roseberry of Sedgwick, KS, Michael Sharbutt of Wichita, KS, Kirsta Lowe-Kalkwarf of Denver, CO, Brandon Lowe and Lucretia Lowe of Winfield, KS, and Carmen Puccio of LeHigh Acres, FL; 13 great-grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends
