Obituary

Herbert Wayne Bittman was born September 23, 1915 in Lookeba, Oklahoma to Albert and Pearl (Lisenberry) Bittman.  He passed from this life on March 18, 2014 at the age of 98.  He grew up and went to school in the area around Binger, Oklahoma.

Herbert went to live with Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Hasbrook, north of Shattuck, in 1932.  He married Lora Barton of the Bishop Community, on November 24, 1941.  They made their home north of Shattuck and resided there until then moved to Shattuck 6 years ago.

He was inducted into the Army in October, 1942 and received basic training at Camp Gruber, Muskogee, Oklahoma.  As a member of the 349 th Infantry, 88 th Division of the 5 th Army, Herbert arrived in Casablanca, North Africa, on December 25, 1943.  He was on the front time for 2 ½ years and received an Honorable discharge after having achieved the rank of Surgical Technical Sergeant 4 th Class.  He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Ribbon, EAMET Ribbon and a Purple Heart for his service.

Herbert became a member of the First Christian Church in 1947 and continued to be an active member throughout his life.  He served as a Deacon and Elder.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lester, Vernon, and Alva, sisters Opal Buttler, Cleo Pate, and son-in-law Sam Jacoby.  He is survived by his wife Lora, of the home; daughters, Willa Dean Jacoby of Shattuck, Oklahoma, Sandra Nondorf and husband Jim of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and son, Dennis and wife Karen of Shattuck, Oklahoma.  He is also survived by grandchildren Cathy Jacoby of Irvin, Texas, Kevin Jacoby and Nancy of Pampa, Texas, Keith Jacoby and Alison of Amarillo, Texas, Erik and Trina Nondorf of Edmond, Oklahoma, Kyle and Elizabeth Nondorf, Darin Nondorf, Andrea Nondorf, and Dean Bittman  all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Jill Bittman of Woodward, Oklahoma.  He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
