Hilton Leon Menser, 79 year old Higgins, TX resident passed from this life at his home on July 4, 2014. Hilton was born on July 20, 1934 to Lloys Herbert and Mary Zuma Kale Menser at Paragould, AR. Hilton attended Paragould Public School's graduating with the class of 1953.
On July 11, 1954 Hilton married Clara Bell Fletcher in Paragould. The union was blessed with two children, Phil and Pamela. Their first home was in Paragould before following produce work to Enid, OK and Alva, OK then settling in Higgins, TX with their own grocery store. The family learned good product and friendly service was the way to run their hometown business. Hilton retired from the grocery retail and began working for the Shattuck Golf Course in 1985. He along with the help of his family managed the course for seven years, retiring in 1991.
Hilton was a community minded man, serving as the town mayor, on the city council, as a volunteer fireman and EMT. He was baptized at the Baptist Church and was a member of the Higgins First Baptist Church.
Those preceding Hilton in death were parents, Lloys and Mary Menser and brother, Herbert Wayne Menser.
He is survived by his wife, Clara of the home in Higgins, TX; son Phil Menser and wife Pamela of Shamrock, TX and daughter Pamela Garza of Higgins, TX; grandchildren, Shantill Davis, Kassi Marran and Tanner Garza; 6 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.
Graveside services Monday 10:00am at the Higgins Cemetery in Higgins, TX.
