Obituary

Ida Charlease Cunningham Lowe was born February 12, 1922 in Cestos, Oklahoma to Charley and Larissa (Eaton) Hunter. She passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at her home in Vici. She had reached the age of 85 years.

Charlease was born and raised on her parent's home place, ten miles east and three miles south of Vici, Oklahoma. She attended the Union Grade School for eight years and completed her freshman year at Taloga High School. Charlease was baptized into The General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn at the age of 14.

On October 8, 1939 she was united in marriage to Rollin Oro Cunningham. Oro's father, Brother R.O. Cunningham, performed the ceremony. Their marriage was blessed with 54 wonderful years. Five children were born to this union, Coeta Ann, Charley Rollin, Carl Dwight, Ruth Alice, and Miles Allen. The early marital life was spent farming in the Vici area. In 1945, the family moved to the Oklahoma Panhandle. In 1978, they moved to Grand-Junction, Colorado and during this time she operated a day care in her home. They returned to Vici in 1985 to retire.

In January, 1957 she participated in the Air Defense Ground Observers Corp training. She was a long-time member of the Cestos Homemakers Club and assisted with the Oklahoma School Lunch program. She worked in the school cafeteria in Felt, Yarbrough, Adams, Straight and Goodwell, Oklahoma. She was well known for the delicious cinnamon rolls that she made. She was also a Grand Champion bread maker. She won Grand Champion at the 1991 Oklahoma State Fair.

On November 5, 1994 Charlease was united in marriage to Ted Chester Lowe. They lived in Hobart, Oklahoma. She became the loving step-mother to Shirley, Phyllis and Sandy.

Charlease was a very loving person and spent many hours helping with the elderly and sick. Charlease enjoyed spending time collecting dolls, tea sets, and stuffed bears. She also liked to take part in entering items in the local fairs. Quilting was one of her specialties. She made a quilt for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as for many others. She loved to play card games with family and friends. The card games provided much enjoyment for her.

Charlease was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Larissa Hunter, her husbands, Oro Cunningham and Ted Lowe, three sons, Miles Cunningham, Charley Cunningham and Carl Cunningham, two grandchildren, Troy Cunningham and Carla Bunch, two great-grandchildren, Javan Rodgers and Katrina Nitka, brothers, Daniel and Loyd Hunter, and a half brother, Lewis Hunter and by one step daughter, Phyliss Holman. She is survived by her daughters, Coeta Jones and husband Bill of Pueblo, Colorado and Ruth Dougherty and husband Johnnie of Texhoma, Oklahoma; two daughters-in-law, Connie Cunningham of Vici, Oklahoma and Sharon Cunningham of Sacramento, California; two step-daughters, Shirley Thompson of Henryetta, Oklahoma and Sandy Marler and husband Roy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; by brothers, Alvin Hunter and wife June of Rogers, Arkansas and Dean Hunter and wife Peggy of Garden City, Kansas; three sisters-in-law, Naomi Hunter of Guymon, Oklahoma,Iona Hunter of Taloga, Oklahoma and Eula Moss of Vici, Oklahoma; by 9 grandchildren: Debra Nitka, Jeannie Pfeifer, Kevin Dougherty, Shelley Field, Charley Cunningham, Jr., Misty Reeves, Monty Cunningham, Robin Skinner and Angel Rodgers; 23 great grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces, other family and a host of friends.
