Obituary

Idora Virginia and twin brother, John Benjamin (J.B.) were born to Harold and Hazel McIntosh in Shattuck Oklahoma on November 12, 1919. She went to live with her Lord on September 21, 2008. Idora graduated from the Shattuck school system, where she was active in 4-H, Home-Ec, Band and Orchestra. Upon graduation from Shattuck High School in 1937, she enrolled in college at Oklahoma A&M (OSU), and graduated in 1941with a Vocational Home Economics degree. She later was certified in elementary and secondary education at Northwestern State, Alva. Idora loved children and devoted much of her life to their education by first teaching at Pleasant View (a very small rural school Northwest of Shattuck), Fargo and Arnett. She retired from teaching in 1971.

Idora met her future husband, Harley Wayland, in 1934 or '35 when they were both delegates to the State 4-H Roundup in Stillwater. They were married in her parent's home on July 29, 1945, with her grandfather, Judge Ben F. Barnett, officiating. To that union, two sons were born…Ronnie in 1946 and Randy in 1955. They made their home on the family farm, southwest of Arnett, until they moved to Shattuck in 1988, where they lived on the edge of her parent's farm.

Idora joined the Shattuck Christian Church in1931 at the age of eleven, and even though she and Harley attended a rural community church most of their married life, she kept her membership in her home church.
She was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, aunt, mother, and grandmother. Her family was most important in her life. Her girls, Linda, Ronna, Sherrill, Samantha, Caitlin and Allison brought special joy to her life and many a twinkle to her eyes. Throughout her life, Idora had many loves and interests, topped by her desire to help others. She was active in the Newman Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary (Pink Ladies), and continued to serve until shortly before she became a Nursing Home resident in 2006. She was a great cook, excellent seamstress and an accomplished artist. She was a genealogy buff and liked to quote her grandfather Barnett who said that part of his ancestors came over on the Mayflower, while the rest were here to greet them. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, LaCompania Home Extension Club,Ellis County Retired Teachers Association and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Idora was preceded in death by her husband-Harley Wayland, parents-Harold and Hazel McIntosh, her twin brother-J.B., and son Randy. She is survived by Son and Daughter-Ron & Linda Wayland, two grand-daughters Ronna and Sherrill Wayland, three great-grand-daughters Samantha, Caitlin & Allison Wayland, one brother Bob McIntosh and wife Mickey, one brother-in-law Harold Wayland along with many other friends and relatives.
