Obituary

Ima Jean (Coyle) Hicks passed peacefully from this life on September 30, 2013. She was born on July 28, 1927, in O'Donnell, Texas, Lynn County, to proud parents Clyde "Breezy" Curtis and Ora Susan "Susie" (Key) Coyle. Ima Jean was the oldest of six children and was affectionately known as "Doodlebug" by her Daddy. After moving to Oklahoma, she lived in a dugout close to the river near Oakwood, OK. Ima Jean began elementary school in Lenora, OK, in a one room schoolhouse until the age of 10 when the family moved to Taloga where she completed her schooling, graduating as valedictorian of her class in 1945. On December 12, 1940, Ima Jean made the most important decision of her life and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized the following spring on April 10, 1941. After high school, she worked in the courthouse until attending Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas, for two years. On August 16, 1947, Ima Jean and Kenneth Merl "Bud" Hicks were united in marriage in Taloga, OK. They made their home on the farm near Taloga where their union was blessed with four children: Merl Gene, Linda Reona, LaDawn Ann, and Angela Faithe. She was a wonderful mother, homemaker and helper to her husband on the farm. She enjoyed music, playing the guitar, sewing clothing for her children and herself, and was an avid reader, especially of her bible. She was always active and engaged in her children's lives, even serving a term as president of the Band Mother's Association. Ima Jean was a faithful charter member of the Taloga Assembly of God Church where she served as a teacher for many years and worked with the Women's Ministries.

Ima Jean is preceded in death by her loving husband Kenneth Merl "Bud" Hicks, her dear parents Breezy and Susie Coyle, siblings Melvin Coyle, Midge Coyle Sanders, Nelda Coyle Day and Curtis Coyle.

Loved ones remaining to cherish her memory are her children, Merl Gene Hicks and wife Oma of Weatherford, OK, Linda Reona Hicks of Tyrone, OK, LaDawn Ann Hicks of Woodward, OK, and Angela Faithe Hicks of Taloga, OK; grandchildren, Julia Hicks Williams and husband Sean, Kory Hicks and wife Ashley, Jeremy Hicks and wife Kim, and Bryan Hicks; 3 great grandchildren; one brother, Don Coyle and wife Carlene of Oklahoma City, OK; one sister in law, June Coyle of Woodward, OK; brother-in-law, Charles Sanders of Yukon, OK; numerous other family members, and a lifetime of friends.
