Obituary

Imogene "Jean" Pierson was born at the family home on Chesnut Mountain near Brazos, Texas on February 4, 1930 to Olen Dennis Petty and Bettie Chesnut Petty. She was baptized at the Dobbs Valley Southern Baptist Church. She passed from this life, Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the age of 79.

She attended Santo Elementary School and graduated from Santo High School in May of 1947 where she enjoyed playing basketball and was active in FHA. She was also the FFA Queen. She moved to Dallas to attend Cousins Secretarial School after graduation.

While attending school she worked at Kings Ice Cream Parlor where she met Jim Pierson. He became smitten with the pretty girl who was making the sundaes. She wed James Larason Pierson on August 11, 1948 in a garden wedding at Athel May (Larason) and Baxter Taylor's home in Dallas, Texas.

He brought her home to Vici where they lived from 1948 to 1951. In 1951 they moved to Woodward where they operated Pierson Motors until 1959 with Jim's brother Leo Pierson. Jean enjoyed spending time with Jim at the Elks Club where they were active members. In 1955, they started their family by adopting their son, Kim. He soon became the center and joy of her life in addition to all her other responsibilities as a homemaker.

In 1960, they returned to Vici to operate Vici Hardware until 1964. Then they opened up the Vici Retail Package Store which they ran together until 2007. In 1966, they added to their family, by adopting their second child, a girl, Elizabeth (Betty) Jean. She always stated that becoming a mother to an infant at 36 kept her young.

During her time in Woodward she became active in the ladies bridge groups where she was known as a very competitive player. She also enjoyed any opportunity to dance to Big Band music with her husband Jim.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Pierson, of Vici; son, Kim Pierson and wife Aviva of Stillwater; daughter, Elizabeth Pierson and husband Jeff Klugman of Aztec, New Mexico; five grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers: Jim Petty and wife Barbara of Mineral Wells, TX; Nina VanderWeide and husband John of Georgetown, TX; Horace Petty and wife Linda of Hurst, TX; Durwood Petty and wife Shirley of Burleson, TX; Evelyn Ferguson of Bedford, TX; Olen Petty of Bedford, TX; Denzil Petty of Fort Worth, TX; Kenneth Petty and wife Lynda of Bryan, TX; Gerald Petty of Weatherford, TX; Janice Harrington and husband Larry of Weatherford, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Sherman and Betty Pierson of Woodward, OK; aunt, Chris Martin, uncle Denzil Petty, 32 nieces and nephews, other family and many dear friends.
