Obituary

Iva Lee Karnes, a beloved homemaker known for her passion for quilting, cooking, gardening, and the simple joys of life, passed away on June 13, 2023, in Taloga, Oklahoma. She was born on October 13, 1929, in Dewey County, Oklahoma, to Clarence Hunter and Alice Bell Whitehead. Iva spent her childhood in Harmon, where she attended school at Arnett Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1947.

On November 29, 1946, Iva Lee Karnes married Carrel Eugene Karnes in Canadian, Texas, beginning a beautiful journey together. Their union blessed them with two children, a son named Eugene Karnes and a daughter named Lynda Roy. After their marriage, the family made their home in Harmon, where Iva devoted herself to creating a loving and nurturing environment for her loved ones.

Iva was a remarkable homemaker, infusing love and care into everything she did. She found joy in the art of quilting, weaving memories into each stitch and creating cherished heirlooms. Her culinary skills were admired by all who tasted her delicious meals, and her green thumb could turn any garden into a vibrant oasis. She found solace in fishing and the freedom of dancing.

In the fall of 2010, Iva Lee Karnes was baptized into the Harmon Church of the Nazarene, where she had been an active member. She participated in various church activities such as Vacation Bible School and contributed her time and effort in cooking, cleaning, and repairs. Iva's dedication to her faith and community was an inspiration to those around her.

Iva Lee Karnes is preceded in death by her loving husband, Carrel Karnes, her grandson Brian Karnes, her parents, three sisters, and eight brothers. She is survived by her children, son Eugene Karnes and wife Myra of Higgins, Texas, and daughter Lynda Roy and husband Art of Taloga, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her sister Ellen Wilson husband Flakey of Harmon, brother Leland Hunter and wife Nancy of Harmon, grandchildren Adam Roy and wife Jennifer of Vici, grandson Tyson Roy and wife Amanda, granddaughter Rana Baker and husband Bradley. Granny's legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Kristen Sowell and husband Mark, Matt Jones, Josh Jones, Reagan Roy, Georgia Roy, Priscilla Roy, "Chico" Roy, Trinity Baker, John Ross Baker, Peyton Karnes, Lorelei Karnes, and Brayden Beebe. Furthermore, she leaves behind her great-great-grandchildren Kimberly Knox, Addison Knox, Lillian Knox, and Aiden Jones. Iva Lee Karnes also touched the lives of many friends and loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.
