Jack L. McCleery was born in the home of his parents, J.S. and Mable (Piercy) McCleery, east of Vici, Oklahoma on March 31, 1931. He passed from this life on September 10, 2007.
Jack's grade school years began at Pleasant View School where he attended through the eighth grade. He began attending Vici High School in the ninth grade and graduated with the senior class four years later.
On November 2, 1950 Jack was united in marriage to Miss Nora Hixon in Woodward, Oklahoma. They took part in a double wedding ceremony with Niles and Jerry Young. Jack and Nora made their first home in Enid, Oklahoma where Nora graduated from high school and their first child, David, was born. Five years later they moved to Eugene, Oregon, where their daughter Beverly was born. Jack worked in a cannery for sixteen years and Nora was a professional dressmaker as well as a homemaker. In 1971 they moved to Vici and Jack began farming and ranching and also working for Niles Young in his body shop. They moved to Colorado in 1987 and operated a Gas-A-Mat station until Jack retired in 1989 and they moved to Harlingen, Texas. Jack and Nora loved to travel and so they bought a travel trailer and enjoyed their travels and life together. In 1993 they decided it was time to settle down and so they, once again, returned to Vici. Jack loved to spend his days riding along with Melvin to check cows and working in his yard.
