Obituary

Jack Chester Shelley, aged 66, of Woodward, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home on April 11, 2024. Born in Seminole, Texas on October 10, 1957, to John William and Joan Ann (Wheeler) Shelley, Jack's early years were spent in Guymon, Oklahoma, where he attended local schools and graduated with the class of 1976. It was in these formative years that Jack developed his lifelong passions and met his future wife, Kim Canning. The couple married on December 31, 1976, in Elkhart, Kansas.

Jack's life was a testament to his love for the outdoors and the open road. After briefly living in Guymon and then Fort Worth, Texas, Jack moved with his family to Vici, Oklahoma in 1978, where they lived until he moved to Woodward in 2006. His career in the oilfield and later at Iochem was cut short by disability in 1999, but it never dampened his spirit. Jack cherished the times spent fishing, hunting, shooting, and especially riding his Harley Davidson to various rallies—a testament to his adventurous spirit and love for freedom.

Jack was baptized in 1975 at the Church of Christ in Guymon.

Preceded in death by his parents, John Shelley and Joan Exparza, maternal grandparents, Chester and Vivan Wheeler, and paternal grandparents, Jack and Lily Shelley. Jack is survived by a loving family: his daughters, Tarron Powell of Oklahoma City and Tamara Day with her husband Jack of Woodward; his grandsons, Grady Stocking of Jacksonville, Florida, Knox Stocking of Woodward, Oklahoma, and Justin Day of Wheatland, Missouri; his enduring love, Kim Shelley of Woodward; his brother, Rick Shelley and wife Christine of Hays, Kansas; nephews, Jonathon, Garrett, William, and Mark Shelley; and numerous family and friends who will miss him dearly.

Jack's life story is a reminder to all to embrace each day with passion and joy, much like he did. He will be remembered not only for the strength he displayed but also for the immense warmth and love he extended to all.

Family Reception will be Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Woodward, OK.
