Obituary

James Larry "Fuz" Smith was born July 27, 1945 in Corning, Arkansas to Fred and Genny Smith. Fuz was the oldest child of four. He had one sister, Sharon and two brothers Freddy and Rodney. Fuz passed away Dec. 20, 2010 in Shattuck, Oklahoma at the age of 65 years, 4 months, and 24 days.

Fuz's favorite sport in high school was football. He graduated from Corning High School in 1963 and furthered his education at Arkansas Tech, where he continued to play football. He was blessed with his first child, daughter Jami, in 1966 and his son Jim, in 1968. Fuz enjoyed running dogs and through this hobby he met the love of his life, Reta, in 1987 in Arnett, OK. They were later married on May 27, 1989. From this union Fuz was blessed with two stepsons, J.B. and Marc.

Fuz loved to coach J.B. and Marc in baseball and enjoyed taking them to field trials when he was running his dogs. He received many awards in field trial competitions. Fuz also enjoyed turkey hunting, being a salesman and a dog trainer, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Fuz especially enjoyed when he and Reta would drive around he countryside together.

Fuz was a people person and never met a stranger. He could find every town's coffee shop drinkers and would visit with them for hours. Everyone who met Fuz remembered him not because of his unusual nickname, but because of his warm and welcoming personality.

Fuz was preceded in death by his mother, Geneva Smith.

He is survived by his wife Reta of the home; daughter, Jami Mullen and husband Jim of Russellville, AR; sons, Jim Smith and wife Courtney of Fayetteville, AR, J.B. McCartor and wife Tabitha of Arnett, OK, and Marc McCartor and wife Bailey of Arnett, OK; father, Fred Smith and wife Sandy of Corning, AR; two brothers, Rodney Smith and wife Sonia and Freddy Smith and wife Jennifer; one sister Sharon Williams and husband Donnie; two granddaughters, Hallie McCartor and Mackenzie McCartor; four grandsons Griffin and Jackson Smith and Mitchell and Michael Mullen; two other special girls Morgan and Madelyn Carroll and many other relatives and friends.
