James Crielman Wagnon, Jr., son of James Crielman Wagnon, Sr. and Eula Agnes Kerby Wagnon was born February 23, 1931 at Peek, OK, and passed away on July 1, 2009 at his home in Medicine Lodge, KS, at the age of 78 years. Jim attended school at Englewood, KS graduating with the Class of 1949. After graduating he worked and lived at Englewood, KS on the family ranch. He then went to the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. Upon discharge, he worked for Hal Cooper at Fort Supply, OK before moving to the Vernon Parker Ranch south of Arnett, OK. He married Zella Mae (Sass) Wagnon on November 18, 1960. Two daughters were added to the family which included Jim, Sass, and Walter C. The daughters were Mary Frances (Marty) and Cathy Lou Ann.
The family stayed at this location for two years before moving to a ranch in Lake City, KS. In 1965, they returned to Arnett, OK, and later moved in 1966 to Perryton, TX, where he was involved in the cattle feeding business until 1977. During this time he worked for Wheatheart Feeders at Perryton where he was Assistant Manager and later fat cattle salesman. He then worked for Walter Merrick at Elk City, KS, before returning to Medicine Lodge, KS, to take over his father's ranching business. After the death of Sass in July 2006 he married Vivian Cross on June 1, 2007. Vivian shared his love of good horses and good cattle.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jim and Eula Wagnon, his wife Sass, his sister in law Orilla Baldwin, a niece, Frankie Mae Miller, a nephew, Jim Miller, 4 brother in laws, Roy Miller, Herbert Baldwin, Mac Suthers and Bill Tyson, and his father in law and mother in law J. D. and Mary Cresswell.
Jim is survived by his wife Vivian Cross Wagnon of Medicine Lodge, KS; 3 sisters and their husbands, Trella and Jon Joy of Montezuma, KS, Twila and Jack Richey of Burleson, TX, Twanda and Stuart Lower of Guymon, OK and 1 brother, Tom Wagnon of Anthony, KS; a sister in law Patricia Wagnon of Dodge City, KS; a son and his wife, Walt and Susan Wagnon of Arnett, OK, 2 daughters and their husbands, Marty and Ted Patterson, Cathy and Al Abbott, 3 stepsons, Chad and Jennifer Cross of Fort Scott, KS, Waco and Cecilia Cross of Hutchinson KS, and Mike Cross of Denver, CO. He is survived by 12 grandchildren; W.C. Wagnon, Jr. of Uvalde, TX, Ryan and Chassidy Wagnon of Dumas, TX, Megan and Ben Hight of Scott City, KS, Casie and Greg Woodard of Harper, KS, David Markley of Pratt, KS, Brandon Abbott of Pratt, KS, Kelly and Jack Urban of Stillwater, OK, Jaice, Seth and Jake Cross, Charlotte and Jacqueline Cross and 4 great grandchildren, Christian and Chloe Mae Wagnon, Maddie Hight and Daxton Urban and nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.
