Obituary

Janice Louise Pruitt was born on December 10, 1952 to Jimmie Burl Pruitt and Beverly Jean Duffy in Cushing, OK.  She passed from this life on May 7, 2021 in Vici, OK at the age of 68 years, 4 months, and 28 days.  Sister Janice became a member of The General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn on July 11, 1963.  She was raised primarily by her grandparents Bro. Lumon and Sis. Nancy Duffy.  Due to Sis. Nancy's poor health, Janice quit school at the end of her 9 th grade year to take care of the household.  After Bro. Lumon's death in 1972, Sis. Janice continued to provide and care for Sis. Nancy until her death in 1986.

Sis. Janice attended Rose State College in Midwest City, earning an Associate's Degree in Public Administration.  While attending Rose State Sis. Janice was elected to: Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges – for outstanding merit and accomplishment as a student; was a member of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society; served two years as a member of the Student Government Association; was on the President's Honor Roll every semester; and was the Business manager for the 15 th Street News college newspaper.  Sis. Janice received a full academic scholarship to the University of Central Oklahoma, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration and Political Science, with a minor in Psychology, and a Master's Degree in Community Counseling.  She was a member of the Psi Chi National Psychology Honor Society.  After leaving her work as a social worker, due to her disability, Sis. Janice worked at home caring for newborn babies and giving them a loving start to life.

Throughout her life, Sis. Janice's greatest joy came from singing praises to the Lord every day and using the gifts He gave her.  Her greatest desire was to be a good servant, be in constant prayer for God's people and be a helper to others.  Sis. Janice began singing to the sick and afflicted at the age of 8.  Her favorite song "Consider the Lilies" she sang to all the children she cared for, to her it was God's Lullaby.

Janice was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lumon and Nancy Duffy; her mother Beverly Jean, father Jimmie Burl Pruitt, and a brother Jimmy Lee Pruitt.
