Janis Pauline Foster joined her Heavenly Father on January 6, 2014. She was born in Leedey, OK on April 3, 1937 to Paul and Louie Fox. After graduating from Leedey High School in 1955, she fulfilled her dream of attending Draugons Business School in Oklahoma City. In 1956 she married her high school sweetheart, James Leonard McKay, and they had one daughter, Dana, before eventually making their home in Moore, OK. Janis entered the workforce during the height of the women's rights movement beginning at Tinker AFB as a secretary. After exhausting her opportunities there, her leadership abilities secured her a position at Wright Patterson AFB. She even had the distinguished honor of working at the Pentagon. She completed her career at level GS14, a rarity among women in the 1980s. Janis is greatly respected and admired by those she worked with through the years. She had a way of motivating people and many of them have shared their gratitude for how she elevated their careers. After retiring Janis returned to Oklahoma, making her home in Midwest City. She enjoyed spending more time with her family, creating magnificent gardens, traveling and rekindling her fondness for small dogs. She was a valuable member of NARFE Chapter 1621 where she served as secretary before eventually becoming president. Janis received great comfort from attending First Church in Oklahoma City, though her health problems prevented her from participating as often as she would have liked. Janis was a master of thinking outside the box and was never afraid to try new things. She had grace, poise and always treated others with kindness and respect.
She was preceded in death by both of her beloved parents.
She is survived by one younger brother, Steven, her devoted daughter, Dana, her loving granddaughter, Amber, and a grandson, James.
Funeral service will be Friday at 2pm.
United Methodist Church in Leedey.
