Obituary

The life of Jerry Don Day has come full circle from when he was born and raised in a little farmhouse in Camargo, Oklahoma in 1933. After many years away, he returned to his homeland at 90 years old where he will eternally rest next to his mom and dad, Lois Pauline (Colvard) Day and Harold Ellsworth Day, brothers DeWayne and Gerald Day, his grandparents and other relatives at the Camargo Cemetery.  Jerry is survived by his children, Tawnya Donnel (Day) Mahoney, Teresa DeAnn Day, and Curtis Deryl Day and wife Kristen. He was also blessed with 6 grandchildren Daniel, Keenan, Tara, Brandon, Kaytlyn and Cody, and 8 great grandchildren whom he cherished.

Jerry suffered from Alzheimer's Disease which he succumbed to on September 1st, 2023. His wish was to come home and spend his final days with his surviving family, brother Joe Day and wife Rita of Vici, OK, sister Jan Digby of Elk City, OK, sister-in-law Nicki Day, wife of the late DeWayne Day of Camargo, OK, and to be closer to sister Marilyn Floyd of Hurst, Texas. He was proceeded in death by his sister Kathy Skelton and brothers-in-law Lonnie Skelton, Bill Floyd and Keith Digby. Jerry is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom he held dearly.

In childhood, Jerry attended school in Camargo where he excelled in sports which eventually led him to play Semi-Pro Baseball in the summer of 1952. Later, he pitched on his company's baseball team.

In 1952, he married his high school sweetheart, Nelda Doris (Coyle) Day of Taloga, OK. He was called to serve in the Army shortly afterward. During the Korean War he specialized in overseas communications with the title of Communications Chief. Following his honorable discharge in 1956, he spent 6 years in the Army Reserve. It was also during this time that he earned his degree in Electronic Engineering from the prestigious Oklahoma City University. Jerry began his career with AT&T Long Lines in 1956. A few years later he and Nelda began their family of Tawnya, Teresa and Curtis. They moved several times over the next few years for Jerry's numerous work promotions, leaving Oklahoma to Missouri then off to California and finally settling in Colorado. Jerry gained respect form his colleagues and peers earning several Toastmasters trophies and a variety of awards while chairing numerous committees and associations at work and in his community. He continued his love of the outdoors raising horses, camping, fishing and gardening throughout their marriage.

After his marriage to Nelda dissolved in 1975, Jerry met Connie and they married in 1979. They moved from Denver to California and then back to Denver when Jerry retired from AT&T after 33 years with the company. Even after a lifetime of residing in multiple states, Jerry never forgot his roots and his love for his home and family. They made several road trips to visit family throughout the years that he always looked forward to. He often spoke of his wish to return to his home in Oklahoma after Connie passed in 2021 and during his extended illness. With the will and determination of his son Curtis and his wife Kristen, and with the love and support from Tawnya and Teresa and many family members, we are grateful that his wish came true. The long and winding road has come to an end, and Jerry Don Day is finally home.

The family would like to express our most heartfelt gratitude to those who supported us during this difficult time. Your love and kindness fills our hearts.
