Obituary

Jerry Don Myers embarked on his journey of life on June 27, 1944, in the hills north of Camargo, OK, at the home of his parents, Herman and Viola (Brown) Myers. He was the second of four children, bringing joy and warmth to the Myers home. Jerry grew up on the family farm, attending grade school and high school in Camargo, where he graduated with the class of 1962. Jerry Don was an outstanding athlete growing up. He excelled in basketball and baseball. He was an outstanding pitcher helping the Camargo Blackhawks reach state tournaments in 1961 and 1962. During the summer after graduation, he was a pitcher for the Shattuck American Legion team. Jerry attended and was baptized in the First Christian Church of Camargo when he was 10 years old. His early years were filled with the simple pleasures of rural life, shaping the character of the man he would become.

After graduation, Jerry moved to Goodwell, OK, to pursue higher education at Panhandle A & M (now Oklahoma Panhandle State University), earning a degree in animal husbandry in 1967. Following his academic pursuits, Jerry answered the call to serve his country, entering the U.S. Army in September 1967. He underwent officer training school in Georgia as a 2nd Lieutenant before moving to Mineral Wells, TX, to complete training.  He reported back to Ft. Benning, GA. as a 1st Lieutenant and began flight training as a helicopter pilot. Commissioned as a Captain, Jerry embarked on a tour of duty in Vietnam from February 25, 1969, to February 24, 1970, flying 1700 hours of missions with courage and dedication. His exemplary service was recognized with several awards, including the National Defense Service Medal, Army Aviation Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, two Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Air Medal. Honorably discharged on September 29, 1970, Jerry returned to Oklahoma, where he engaged in farming, ranching, and the oilfield industry.

In his early years, Jerry found joy in stock car racing, coon and coyote hunting with friends, fishing, and gardening. In 1983, he found love and companionship with Vicki Allen, and they established their home in Webb, OK, within the Camargo community. Jerry was the father of four children—Jeramy "JJ" and DonNell and two daughters, Alisha and Michelle born from his previous marriage in 1967.

At the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 5 days, Jerry completed his earthly journey on December 2, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife Vicki, his son JJ Myers and wife Jade of Vici, OK, his daughters DonNell Myers and wife Megan of Vici, OK, Michelle Ortega and husband Sam of Texhoma, OK, and Alisha Terrell and husband Brock of Wellston, OK. Jerry leaves behind eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, as well as his siblings Shirley Moore, Janice Hunt and husband Bill, Mike Myers and wife Veronica. He is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Herman and Viola Myers, a brother-in-law Bob Moore, nieces Lisa Moore and Marcia Cook, and other loved ones. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him—a brave and honorable man who served his country, cherished his family, and embraced life with passion and resilience.
