IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jessie Murl
Schmidt
March 17, 1935 – August 31, 2023
Jessie Murl (Marlin) Schmidt, daughter of Jess Marlin and Murl (Clinkscale) Marlin, was born on March 17, 1935, in Elmer, Oklahoma. She peacefully passed away on August 31, 2023, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 88 years, 5 months, and 14 days.
Jessie's early years were filled with the warmth of family in Jackson County, where she grew up alongside four sisters and a brother. She attended school northwest of Altus, Oklahoma, in the town of Martha, and proudly graduated with the Class of 1953.
Determined to make a difference in the world, Jessie pursued further education in Elk City, Oklahoma, where she attended Nursing School. Her dedication paid off, as she successfully became a Licensed Practical Nurse upon completing her studies.
On June 18, 1960, Jessie embarked on a lifelong journey with her beloved husband, J.G. Schmidt, as they were married in the United Methodist Church in Arnett, Oklahoma. Together, they were blessed with two sons, Mike and Mickey.
Over the years, George and Jessie lived in various communities, including Sharon, Oklahoma, where they operated a grocery store until 1963. They also resided in Enid, Red Oak, and Wilberton, Oklahoma, while George served as a Methodist Minister. In 1971, they returned to Sharon, making it their permanent home.
Jessie's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was baptized in the Methodist faith at the tender age of seven. She remained a devoted member of the Sharon United Methodist Church, actively participating in the United Methodist Women's organization. One of her favorite fundraising activities was making noodles, a skill she shared with love and dedication. Jessie also held the cherished title of the community Grandmother.
In her leisure time, Jessie found joy in reading, playing board games, and card games. Her laughter and warmth brightened the lives of those fortunate enough to share these moments with her.
Due to health challenges, Jessie moved from her beloved home in Sharon to Oklahoma City. Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Meadowlake Estates Nursing Home and Suncrest Hospice for their exceptional care and support.
Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Murl Marlin, her loving husband J.G. Schmidt, three siblings - Charse Renfro, Barbara Smith, and Ray Marlin, as well as brothers-in-law James Holt, Dwayne Long, and Kenneth Renfro, and sister-in-law Norma Marlin, and other loved ones.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, forever cherished by her sons, Mike Schmidt and his wife Jonna of Sharon, Oklahoma, and Mickey Schmidt of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her grandchildren, Kristen Walters and her husband Todd of Mooreland, Oklahoma, Kara Schmidt of Sharon, Oklahoma, and Katelyn Hinds and her husband Ethan of Woodward, Oklahoma, as well as her great-grandchildren - Ainsley, Ayzlen, and Anistyn Walters. Her sisters, Kay Long in Texas and Mary Lou Holt in Kansas, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, all holding a special place in their hearts for Jessie.
