Dr. Jimmie Gann's Obituary
Jimmie Lee Gann was born in Canton, Oklahoma on July 12th, 1942. He was the only child born to O.B. and Ardell Gann. Jim passed from this life on August 9, 2012 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 70.
Jim grew up in Vici, Oklahoma and attended all 12 years of school, graduating in 1960. He then attended Southwestern State University for two years, transferring to Panhandle State University for one year. He was accepted to dental school at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, after only three years of college. He graduated with the class of 1967.
On August 19, 1962, Jim married Patricia Compton in the Methodist Church in Arnett, Oklahoma. On January 14th, 1972 they welcomed their daughter Krista into their lives.
Jim and Pat lived in Goodwell, OK their first year of marriage while attending college. In 1963 they moved to St. Louis for 4 years while Jim attended dental school. In June, 1967 he began practicing dentistry with Dr. Wilbur Whiteneck in Woodward, Oklahoma. He practiced until retiring in 2001. Jim was very involved in the Dental community. He was honored to be the President of the Oklahoma Academy of General Dentistry and a proud recipient of his Fellowship Award. As a Fellow of the American Academy of General Dentistry, he was recognized by the academy's members as a leader who was committed to life-long learning and excellence in patient care.
He was active in the Woodward community until moving to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in February, 2011.
Jim loved fast cars, planes, hunting, fishing, golf, scuba diving with his daughter, Krista, and sports. He was always happy being outdoors.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, O.B. and Ardell Gann; father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Lucille Compton; brothers-in-law, Monte Compton, Max Compton, Theron Compton and Gary Compton. He is survived by his wife Pat of the home; one daughter Krista Gann of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters-in-law, Winona Derrick of Arnett, OK and Joan Compton of Springfield, CO; 10 very loved nieces and nephews, and a lifetime of friends.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Arnett, Harmon or Vici Fire Departments.
