Jo Anne Elizabeth Chesnut passed peacefully from this life on February 8, 2009 at the age of 85. She was born in Marlow, Oklahoma to Russel and Elizabeth (Miller) Lowry on October 25, 1923. Jo Anne was lovingly called "Granny Jo" by her family.
Jo Anne grew up in Colony, Oklahoma attending the Colony High School. She went on to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University and received her Teaching Certificate.
Jo Anne was united in marriage on June 8, 1946 to Charles Lindy Chesnut in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of their two daughters, Verna Beth and Angela. The Chesnut's made their home in Arnett, Oklahoma for many years. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother.
Jo Anne was a teacher in the Arnett School system for several years. She taught the business skills class, which included such subjects as typing, shorthand, and business machines, at the high school level.
In 1983, Jo Anne and Charles moved their home to Woodward. They enjoyed traveling together and spending time in south Texas during the winter months.
She liked to spend her free time reading a good book, cross-stitching, or bowling. Jo Anne also enjoyed painting ceramics for many years. She was a past member of the Arnett Library Club.
Jo Anne was a faithful member of the Arnett First Baptist Church and served as Girls Auxiliary Leader for several years. After their move to Woodward, she and Charles attended the First Baptist Church of Woodward.
Those loved ones preceding her in death are husband, Charles; parents, Russel and Elizabeth Lowry; and brothers, Weedn Lowry and Billy Russel Lowry.
Family members remaining to cherish her memory are daughters, Verna Beth Barker of Woodward, OK and Angela Miller of Sudan, Texas; by four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many friends.
