Chrystal "Joan" (Louthan) Ray was born on September 12, 1937 in Chester, OK to Howard Raymond Louthan and Lila Mae (Hedrick) Louthan. Growing up, Joan lived in Chester and attended grade school at the one room Elm Grove School before she graduated at Richmond High School. Following her graduation, Joan moved to Woodward, OK to pursue opportunities there. On February 22, 1958, Joan was united in marriage to the love of her life Stewart Eldred Ray at the Seiling Friends Church. To this union was born one son Dennis Ray, and three daughters, Sandra Jean, Sherrie Janette, and Shelly Jo.
The family lived in Woodward from 1958 until 1970 before they moved to their farm at Sharon, OK from 1970 until 2017- except for two years when they lived at Beaver, OK during which time Joan came in 3rd place in the nation in the Cow Chip Throwing Contest. During her work life, Joan worked with Cowden's Manufacturing for one year; as a telephone operator for two years; and then with Stock Exchange Bank until she retired.
Joan enjoyed bowling, pitching horseshoes, feeding hummingbirds, OU football, and cooking. On her cooking, all the grandkids loved spending the night and having waffles. Joan was member of the Seiling Friends Church in her early life, before later becoming a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Woodward. At the Friends Church, Joan was the Church Clerk and a member of the choir.
Joan passed from this life on September 22, 2019 at Woodward, OK. Preceding Joan in death are her parents Howard and Lila Louthan; and infant son Dennis Ray.
Joan is survived by her husband Stewart Ray of the home; brother Verl Louthan and wife Judy of Woodward; sister Marilyn Waggoner and husband Eugene of Woodward; sister-in-law Judy Grace of Gage, OK; daughters Sandra Jean Koehn and husband Jeff of Alva, OK, Sherrie Janette Benson and husband Bryce of Alva, and Shelly Jo Palacios and husband Israel of Sharon, OK; grandchildren Jaisha Koehn of Stillwater, OK, Sherryce Pinon and husband Tyler of Littleton, CO, Jordan Koehn of Alva, Chrystal Detring and husband Tyler of Bixby, OK, Jesse Palacios and wife Maegann of Norman, OK, Brent Palacios of Alabama, Adrian Palacios of Sharon, and Isaac Palacios of Sharon; three great-grandchildren; 3 nieces; 4 nephews; and a host of friends and loved ones including Joan's angel, Angela Roberts who gave her excellent care.
