Obituary

John Anderson Logan was born January 17, 1914 on his family's farm near Rhea, OK. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Porter Logan. He departed from this life on July 14, 2013 at the age of 99 years old just shy of his goal of 100 years. He attended Rhea school through the 8th grade. After the death of his mother, he chose to begin working to help support his family working on the family farm and helping neighbors at the age of 13. He married Irene Ferrell on August 2, 1934 in Arapaho, Oklahoma. Two children were born to them: Dorothy Marlene Logan Grant and Bobby Anderson Logan. They remained in the Rhea/Leedey area until the fall of 1954 when they moved to Taloga. John's passion was being a horseman. His first winning show horses were Chief's Maiden, Lady Reed, and Bobby Reed. Two of them won their class at the state quarter horse show. John served on the board for the American Quarter Horse Association for several years. He stood several stallions including Dinky Reed for service for several years. In the 1960's, John became interested in racing some of the horses he raised. Throughout his racing career he traveled to New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Illinois, Vermont, Nebraska, and here in Oklahoma. He never met a stranger and was known and loved for his story telling abilities. John loved to meet new people and found a connection with almost everyone he met. His stories will be remembered by many. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Irene Ferrell Logan; his parents Porter Logan and Lydia Snyder Logan; his infant brother P.D.; his brother Harold; his sister Dorothy Logan Riddle; and his granddaughter Vicky Logan Lynch. He is survived by his children, Dorothy Marlene Logan Grant of Chicago and Bobby Anderson Logan and wife Anita of Taloga; sister, Mary Francis Logan Zulauf of Los Angeles; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and by several nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.
