Gage resident, John Sheridan Miller passed away at the Shattuck Nursing Center on January 9, 2009. John was born to Herbert and Delia McCool Miller on August 9, 1915 near Gage, OK.
John graduated from Fargo High School. He then married Ethel Pauline Harms on May 13, 1939 in Woodward, OK. The couple made their home near and around Gage, OK. They were blessed with two children, Larry and Phillis.
John was a farmer and worked hard to provide for his family. He also worked at the First State Bank of Gage, where he became Vice-President. John enjoyed fishing, gardening, and playing music with family and friends. John was a member of the Rotary Club in Gage, where he was designated as a Paul Harris Fellow through Rotary Intentional. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gage and he and Ethel attended regularly when their health allowed.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Delia Miller, sister, Elnora Reay, brother Chester Lee Miller and special friend Loren Schneider. He is survived by his wife Ethel; son Larry Ray Miller and wife Marjorie of Lusby, MD; daughter Phillis Peer and husband Henry of Gage, OK; 6 grandchildren: Tonya Morris, Johnna Chapman, Nicole Hicks, Claude Bruce Miller, Kristin Wiard and Lori Shepherd; 17 great grandchildren: MaRanda Harp, Abby Hardesty, Adam Chapman, Alisha Kellman, Amanda New, Cortney New, Bailey New, Tiffany Miller, Benjamin Miller, Timothy Miller, Chelsea Wiard, Katrina Narudsky, MacKenzie Wiard, Victoria Shepherd, Olivia Shepherd, Preston Shepherd and Samantha Shepherd; 2 great-great grandchildren Isaac Hardesty and Raylee Kellman; cousin Margarette Stockbuger; other family and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 12, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Gage with burial following at Fargo Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaw Funeral Home in Shattuck. Condolences may be made at shawfuneralhome.net.
