Johnnie Dean Thomason

Johnnie Dean Thomason, 81, of rural Leedey, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home on July 18, 2026.

Johnnie was born on December 30, 1944, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Jack Clinton and Katherine Ellen (Lewis) Thomason. He spent his early childhood in Enid, where he attended primary school. At the age of 16, he moved to Houma, Louisiana, and graduated from Terrebonne High School. In the 1980s, he returned to Oklahoma before living in New Iberia, Louisiana, from 1990 until 1993. In 1993, Johnnie settled near Leedey, Oklahoma, where he made his home for the remainder of his life.

Johnnie was blessed with a daughter, Suzie Bull. On November 28, 1992, he married the love of his life, Marcia Ann Schindele, in Camargo, Oklahoma. Through their marriage, he joyfully welcomed two stepchildren, Doug Washington and Dawn Harrel, into his family.

Johnnie worked for many years as an offshore welder, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and skilled craftsmanship. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time outdoors. He loved fishing, camping, and working in his shop, where he could always be found tinkering on a project. One of his greatest joys was attending his grandchildren's ballgames and cheering them on from the stands. Above all, Johnnie treasured the time he spent with his family and friends, creating countless memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Clinton Thomason and Katherine Ellen (Lewis) Thomason; his father-in-law, Dale Schindele; his mother-in-law, Betty Schindele; his sisters, Norma Gay Thomason, Margaret Suit, and Nora Broomfield; and his brothers-in-law, Jerry Suit and John Broomfield.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Marcia Thomason, of the home; his daughter, Suzie Bull and husband Justin of Illinois; his stepson, Doug Washington of Swaledale, Iowa; his stepdaughter, Dawn Harrel and husband Randy of Leedey, Oklahoma; his sister-in-law, Rhonda Brown and husband Scott of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; his grandchildren, Haley Beer and husband Tate of Leedey, Oklahoma; Connor Washington and wife Erica of St. Charles, Missouri; Sydney Henry and husband Randy of Leedey, Oklahoma; Jessie Eaton and husband Wyatt of Butler, Oklahoma; Kalynn Rooney and husband Justin of Rockwell, Iowa; Hank Harrel of Leedey, Oklahoma; Sammie Ramirez and husband Edson of Meservey, Iowa; Jack Harrel and wife Catelyn of Leedey, Oklahoma; Jakob Washington and wife Hailey of Sheffield, Iowa; Tyler Christiansen and wife Trinity; Bryce Christiansen; Mya Thomason; and Brixen Bull. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Wryn, Thatcher, and Bishop Beer; Boone, Gunner, and Hagen Henry; Maison, Case, and Andi Eaton; Elias Washington; Brynlee Rooney; Hudson Ramirez; and Luka and Nova Christiansen, along with two great grandchildren on the way and a host of extended family members and dear friends.

A private memorial service celebrating Johnnie's life is to be held Sunday, July 26, 2026 at their home near Leedey, Oklahoma.

Johnnie will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering devotion to his family, his hardworking spirit, and the kindness he shared with those around him. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and the many lives he touched throughout the years.
