Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Chesley Brosh was born February 1, 1945 to John and Gwendolyn (McLain) Brosh. He passed away on September 7, 2019 at his home in Elk City, OK surrounded by family.

The youngest of 6, Joe was raised on the family farm Northwest of Shattuck with his 4 older sisters and older brother. He attended Ivanhoe School for one year until the school consolidated with Shattuck schools, from which he graduated in 1963. Joe's career in the Oilfield began as a teenager, where he worked as a Roughneck, Driller, Tool Pusher and Consultant until his retirement in November 2018. He spent many years working as a ranch hand and cowboy. Later, he was a Dairyman, Cattleman and Farmer. Over the last several years, Joe loved working in his woodshop.

December 16, 1994, Joe married Stella Hicks. The two moved to Elk City and had 25 years travelling and spending time just being at home and with family. They attended Elk City Church.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, Norma Jean, his son, Joseph Louis Brosh, sisters Carol Ann Thomas, Stella Beth Bruce, Shirley Madge Sobolik, Anna May Shatto, brother John Allan Brosh Sr. and nephew John Allan Brosh Jr.

He leaves to mourn his wife Stella Brosh of Elk City, daughters Jolisa Swanson and husband Jason of Shattuck, OK and Shanna Koehn and husband Lance of Broken Arrow, OK, step children Marvin Hicks and wife Rachel of Retrop, OK, Sanford Hicks and wife Donna of Elk City, Christina Cornejo and husband Gabe of Yukon, OK, Rosetta Demarest of Mesquite, TX, Grandchildren Adison, Emily and Elizabeth Swanson, Amberly and Erringten Koehn, Mercedes and Jacob Cornejo, Westly Hicks, Jamie Hicks, Michael Barber and Alyssa Barber, Brittany, Lauren, Ashley and Josh Demarest, several dear nephews and nieces, many friends and other relatives.

Joe loved reading and telling stories. We all wanted to sit and listen for hours as he told about the time his sisters had worked to clean the floors to surprise their parents and locked the two boys out so they wouldn't be messed up, only to have those boys throw mud through the screen door. The time Carol asked him to make his coon dogs, Duke and Shorty, sing and all he had to do was yell out the back door "speak to me, boys!" and they would bay until he told them that was enough. His smile and laugh were infections. Always kind and polite but with an ornery spark that drew people in, Joe was a great Husband, Brother, Cousin, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, neighbor and friend. He taught us all to be good people, to love the Lord, that Big Foot and the Lockness Monster are probably real, and that family should always be there for one another.

He will be greatly missed because he was greatly loved.
