Obituary

Joseph Daniel Cline, better known as Dan Cline, was born to Arthur LeRoy Cline and Sarah Ann (Long) Cline on August 14, 1939.  He passed from this life at the age of 84 on August 25, 2023 in Seiling, OK.  Dan started his education at the Parallel Country School and upon closure of the school he continued and finished his school years at Putnam School, Putnam, OK.  He attended college for a year at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK.  Dan was drafted into the United States Army serving two years of active duty; which included being stationed in Germany.  He served four years in the Army Reserve following active duty and was honorably discharged.

Dan started his career with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation in Dewey County.  In 1994 he moved into a position in the Division 5 Headquarters in Clinton, OK. and a move to Cordell was made at that time.  Dan retired in 2001.  He was proud to be a member of the ODOT family.

Dan was a volunteer firefighter with the Taloga Fire Department and an Emergency Medical Technician with the Taloga Ambulance Service.  He and his fellow volunteers brought the Taloga Fire Department from one truck housed in a small garage to a new fire and Ambulance station.    The state surplus system was utilized to obtain vehicles that could be modified into fire trucks.  Many hours were donated by these volunteers outside of their regular job hours to convert these vehicles into fire trucks that could handle the rough terrain in Dewey County.

In 1971 Dan was married to Betty Fox.  Dan inherited Dollie as a mother in law and he said she knew how to make coffee – strong.

Attending the Women's College Softball World Series and then traveling on to Omaha, Nebraska to the Boy's Baseball College World Series became an annual event.  Many life-long friends were made at the RV park and the games.

After retirement and selling their home in Cordell the motor home became home and allowed the freedom to travel to many states.  Texas in the winter where Dan could sit outside and visit with friends and Salida, Colorado in the summer where sitting outside and visiting with friends or traveling the many back roads in the mountains became the pattern.  Due to health issues the motor home life had to be traded for a home back in Taloga where most of the family was living in the vicinity.  Being able to see the nieces and nephews grow up, marry and have families of their own brought pleasure to Dan.

Those preceding Dan in death are his parents Arthur and Sarah, brother Earl, sister Margaret, brother-in-law Donald Kincaid, sister Ruth Ann, brother-in-law Everett Stotts, mother-in-law Dollie Fox, brother-in-law Everette Fox, brother-in-law Bob Morrison, brother-in-law Huston Butcher, nephew Monty Fox, nephew Wayne Morrison and other loved ones.

Surviving Dan is his wife Betty of the home, his sister Sue Boyle and husband Elwyn and family, sister-in-law Doretta Cline and daughters, sister-in-law Doris Kincaid and the Kincaid girls, the Stotts family, sister-in-law Doris Butcher, brother-in-law Dennis Fox and wife Phyllis and family, sister-in-law Beth Morrison and her daughter and family, the daughters of Everette Fox and other relatives and friends.
