Joseph "Jody" William Burton was born February 2, 1952 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Bill and JoAnna Burton. Jody grew up in various places, coast to coast, but Vici Oklahoma was always the place he called home. He attended Vici High School while living with his grandparents Joe and Letha Peard and enjoyed his time there the most of all. Jody and Susan were united in marriage on August 23, 1973. They welcomed their first son Joseph Robert in 1976, and later welcomed their second son, William Clint in 1979. Jody and Susan were happy to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on August 23, 2023, surrounded by loving family.

Jody began roughnecking at the age of 17 for his uncle Gene Balfour at Parker Drilling. He spent 40 years in the oilfield on various drilling rigs, at one point hiring both sons to work for him which led to lifelong careers in the oilfield for both. After leaving the oilfield he started his own business hauling alfalfa hay to various dairies in Texas and New Mexico.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed  working and feeding cattle on his ranch. Swimming, boating, and fishing were some of his favorite hobbies that he loved to share with all. His selflessness and dedication to his family was valued and will forever be held in our memories.

He is preceded in death by his father, Bill Burton, mother, JoAnna Peard, and sisters, Darla Harding and Jill Burton.

He is survived by his wife Susan, sons; Joseph and wife Shawnna, Clint and wife Brittany; seven grandchildren, Jillian, Carli, Avery, Coy, Crew Burton, Olivia and Gavin Ward. Sisters; Theresa Noreuil, Maria Hall, Judy Harmon, Nancy Moore, and brother Bobby Burton.  Additionally survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
