Obituary

Joyce Anne (Elledge) Thorpe, born on December 8, 1936, in Ponce City to Elza Lee and Truvilla Blache (Green) Elledge, bid her final farewell on January 29, 2024. She passed away surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and grace.

In 1948, Joyce Anne moved to Enid, where she completed her high school education at Enid Longfellow. In the journey of life, she encountered Fredrick Thorpe, and they embraced a shared path. Their union brought forth the joy of parenthood with the birth of their beloved son, Stanley Thorpe, on October 7, 1960.

Following her marriage, Joyce Anne relocated to Dallas, Texas, where she courageously undertook the role of a single mother, dedicating herself to raising Stan. Despite the challenges, she navigated the responsibilities with determination and love, shaping Stanley into the person he became.

Throughout her life, Joyce Anne pursued her passion for dance and became a dance instructor at Arthur Murray, sharing the joy of movement with others. Her graceful and rhythmic presence undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the dance community.

Joyce Anne Thorpe faced the trials of life with unwavering strength, but sadly, she was preceded in death by her parents, son Stanley, daughter-in-law Jan, and her husband, Fred Thorpe. The passing of her nephew, Kirk Baker, added to the sorrow that surrounded her.

In cherishing her memory, Joye Anne is survived by her sisters, Wanda Kerss of Cartwright, Oklahoma, and Shirley Cox of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her legacy lives on through her special niece, Tamara Cartwright of Cartwright, Bliss Baker of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Leanne Cowley, and Brian Kerss of Garland, Oklahoma. She is also remembered fondly by various friends and extended family members who were touched by her warmth and kindness.

Joyce Anne Thorpe's life was a tapestry woven with love, perseverance, and the joy of dance. May her spirit find eternal peace and may the memories of her laughter and grace bring solace to those who mourn her passing.
