Obituary

Judith Anne Ennis, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted servant of her faith, passed from this life on May 2, 2025, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, at the age of 82.

Judith was born on January 11, 1943, in La Grande, Oregon, to Al and Shirley Sannar. Her early years were spent in the logging camp of Starky, Oregon, where she attended elementary school and developed a love for nature and adventure. At the age of 9, Judith made a lifelong commitment to her faith through baptism in La Grande.

In her youth, she moved with her family to Ketchikan, Alaska, before it became a state. There, she completed her high school education and graduated with the class of 1961. Her fellow classmates described her as a ray of sunshine shining through the Alaskan rainforest, always having a smile. While in high school, she worked as a nurse's aide, hoping to go to nursing school after high school. The year she graduated, she married Vernon Thomas Thornburg. Together, they welcomed four children: Jenny, Vernon, Sherry, and Rodney.

On October 28, 1978, Judith married Glenn Edward Ennis, and was blessed with two bonus children: Jerry and Bill. In 1984, the Ennis family moved to Cassville, Missouri, and soon after began a ministry journey that took them across the western United States. Glenn's ordination as a pastor led them to serve in Big Timber, Montana; Basin, Wyoming; Shepherd, Montana; and eventually back to Missouri, where they opened a cabinet shop.

Throughout her life, Judith was many things to many people. She was a devoted pastor's wife, a trusted sales clerk, and a well-known "Tupperware lady." She expressed her creativity through painting, arts, and crafts. She cherished time outdoors—especially picnics and camping—and had a deep heart for children's ministry.

In her later years, Judith became a member of Shattuck Baptist Church and was active in the local TOPS group. She also participated in Team Kids at church, continuing her lifelong dedication to nurturing the faith of young people.

Judith was preceded in death by her husbands, Glenn Ennis and Vernon Thornburg; her son, Bill Ennis; her grandson, Daxton Drake; her mother, Shirley Sannar; her father, Charles Alvin Sannar; her aunt, Larena Vance; and her uncle, Harry Kennison.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Jenny Martin of Arnett, OK; Vernon Thornburg of Port Townsend, WA; Sherry Spicer of Cassville, MO; Rodney Ennis of Branson, MO; and Jerry Ennis of Cassville, MO. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen Tannihill; her brother, Thomas Alvin Sannar; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 3 nieces; 5 nephews; and a host of cherished friends and extended family.

A memorial service to honor Judith's life will be held at Crossroads Baptist Church in Stella, Missouri. Her legacy of faith, family, and compassion will live on through all those she touched.
