Karolyn Sue (Grice) Hager

Karolyn Sue Hager, 80, of Vici, Oklahoma, passed peacefully surrounded by family on May 11, 2026. Born April 5, 1946, in Perryton, Texas, to Lawson and Ruby Grice, Karolyn grew up on the family farm, where she learned the value of hard work, family, and faith—principles that would guide her entire life.

She attended school in Hardesty, Oklahoma, and later continued her education at Panhandle State University in Goodwell. On June 26, 1965, she married the love of her life, Joe Hager, in Hardesty. Together they shared over five decades of marriage and raised three children—Shane Hager, Shawnda Ferbrache, and Cody Hager. The Hager family made homes in Liberal, Kansas; Texhoma and Guymon, Oklahoma; and Sharon, Oklahoma, before retiring to Vici.

Karolyn’s work ethic and compassion shone through in every role she held. She owned and operated Karolyn’s Kut and Kurl out of her garage, worked as a telephone operator for GTE, and dedicated nearly forty years to the Vici Nursing Home, most of those as dietary manager. She took immense pride in her work, often saying, “This is their home, and they deserve a good home-cooked meal.” Her kindness and care touched countless residents and coworkers through the years.

Outside of work, Karolyn found joy in simple pleasure camping, horseback riding in her younger days, cheering at every game, match, and race her children and grandchildren competed in. She loved spending time at her family’s place in the country, watching her loved one’s hunt, fish, and swim. She never turned down a good drive through the countryside or a long visit on the phone, and nothing made her happier than being surrounded by family.

A woman of deep faith, Karolyn was baptized as a child and remained a faithful member of the Mutual Christian Church and later the Vici Christian Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawson and Ruby Grice; her beloved husband, Joe Hager; her son, Cody Hager; and her brothers, Warren, Rickey, Tommy, and Jim Grice.

Karolyn is survived by her son, Shane Hager and wife Amie; her daughter, Shawnda Ferbrache and husband Jeremy; her grandchildren, Billy, Dillan, Quaid and girlfriend Destiny, and Phoebe Hager; Rylan Ferbrache and wife Bryce; Kortlyn Jones and husband Dylan; Jade Hager and boyfriend Preston Davis, Hunter Hager and wife Gracie, Dakota, and Wyatt Hager; great-grandchildren, Zaiden Hager, Olivia Davis, Cody and Paxton Hager, Liam and Lyra Hager, and Heston Davis—along with a host of extended family and dear friends who will miss her laughter, warmth, and loving spirit.

Karolyn’s life was one of hard work, faith, and family. Her legacy will live on in the many lives she touched and the love she gave so freely.
